CRM 4.0 - Sample Currency Import CSV File

Multicurrency was a new feature in CRM 4.0.

Therefore, I thought I would be good to upload and reference this sample CSV file for uploading currencies into CRM 4.0. You can check the layout incase you would like to know the format required to import currencies into CRM.

Steps to import a Currency exchange rate data file (via CRM Web Interface):

Select Import Data from the Tools menu.
Select the file where it is located on your computer.
Select Record Type of Currency.
Because exchange rate files are typically imported on a daily basis, select 'Allow duplicate records to be imported'
Verify the import was successful by examining the System Jobs (or click the green refresh icon on top of the currecy view to see the new record(s)).

Advanced users could (as an example) built a routine (extending CRM) that could read the CSV file on a daily basis and import it into CRM via the exposed CRM Web Service.

Windows 2008 Server - Tips on Remote Desktop & RunAs

Couple of tips when working with Windows 2008 Server (apply to other Operating Systems as well):

Remote Desktop - /console now /admin

You can use the new /admin switch to remotely connect to a Windows Server 2008-based server for administrative purposes. The /admin switch is introduced with RDC 6.1. So use this instead of /console. There are also some fundamental changes to Remote Administration, for more info you can read the really good article posted by the Terminal Services team: http://blogs.msdn.com/ts/archive/2007/12/17/changes-to-remote-administration-in-windows-server-2008.aspx

There are also some operating systems affected by this remote administration change and will also require the /admin switch command. These are:

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta and RC
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) Beta and RC

Run As

Want to do the runas option with Windows 2008 server? Well you can use this handy command-line Runas utility is for launching programs under different accounts. Head over to this link and take advantage of the command: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc300361.aspx

ShellRunas works on Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP.

Using ShellRunas

Usage: shellrunas [/reg | [/quietreg ] | /regnetonly [/quiet] | unreg | [/netonly] <program> <arguments>

/reg Registers ShellRunas shell context-menu entry
/regnetonly Registers Shell /netonly context-menu entry. Note: a command prompt will flash when the program starts
/unreg Unregisters ShellRunas shell context-menu entry
/quiet Register or unregisters ShellRunas shell context-menu entry without result dialog
/netonly Use if specified credentials are for remote access only
<program> Runs program with specified credentials and parameters

NZ Microsoft TechFest 2008

Each year during the TechEd conference comes the TechEd party known as TechFest. TechFest is the main social event of the conference and is a great time for all IT personnel involved to gather and have a drink or two together.

This year 2nd September 2008, from 6:30pm through 11pm at the Princes Wharf, Quay Street, the party with Opshop and dDub was hosted by Microsoft.

It was great to catch up with a few regular and new faces in Auckland, NZ.
